Resume writers keeping busy in tight job market

FLINT -- With a hundred or more people commonly duking it out for each job in today's economy, resume and cover letters are becoming ever important in the combative job search arena.

And area resume writers -- yes, there are such people -- say they are seeing lots of business from folks who want a little help to spruce up their job story.

"It is even more important now for people to have a professional-looking resume since there's so much competition," said Janet Beckstrom, a professional resume writer and owner of Word Crafter in Flint.

Genesee County's unemployment rate was 9.7 percent in June and the job picture is even worse in Flint, where the jobless rate that month stood at 17 percent.

Hundreds of people flooded the Menards store in Vienna Township before it opened trying to land a much-coveted job this spring. And, again, a flood of applicants turned out to apply at the new Meijer store near Birch Run.
